Well, I am going to talk about something that we don't have, a nursery for our baby. Being that we live in the tight confinement of a studio apartment building, there's no nursery per se for our monkey. Her nursery, is basically tucked away in the corner of our apartment, next to our very own bed. She's got a nice crib to sleep in, a small area that's covered with foamy spongy squares to play on, a jumperoom in one corner of the living space, and a bumbo seat in the other corner. So in our co-mingled studio, Chloe's nursery is almost none existent. But that hasn't stopped me from drooling over the adorable nursery decors that are out there calling my name. :) So here is what I found on Etsy! More wall art. You can frame it, hang it up, stick it on the wall, whatever. It's just too cute to be left in the Etsy shop w/o getting a print or two, or three or four! :)
Hope you'll like it...
My baby turned 7 months yesterday on 9-27-09!!! Yes, 7 big whole months of caring, loving, worrying, and fussing over this precious little thing. I don't know where time went but these past 7 months have been the quickiest 7 months of my entire life, I think. Everyday is different and everyday is filled with excitement of watching Chloe grow. She surprises us each and every day with her development, motor skills, language ability, and EQ. It's simply amazing! I say to people all the time that if we had endless resources, I would have 3-4 more kids without thinking twice or blinking an eye! They are just so much joy to be around and care for. Admittedly, they are not always well behaved, but just know that whenever they fuss, there must be a good reason for it. Little babies can't talk or communicate, so crying is their way of telling us something. We just have to be patient and tune in to their needs.
Little monkey is sound asleep right next to me, just like her Daddy. We have our very first parent social at the daycare tomorrow evening. I'll have to bring my camera to document it all. Gosh, I'll have to start another photo album that will label "Chloe at 7 months"!! Before we know it, she'll start crawling, walking, talking, running, going away to college, dating, getting married, having her own babies, ahhh....time needs to s.l.o.w. down...
So check out Marisa Fischer's beautifully crafted outfit for her little one's birthday! I wish I was talented like that. Its yummy pink lollipop color makes the little outfit dreamier than ever! She's truly crafty at what she does. She's also got an Etsy store too - Rae Gun Wear. Check her out.
I have not seen a room plastered with flowery wall paper for a long while. Growing up, no one "painted" the rooms, we schlap huge pangs of papers on the walls and called it a day. I recall seeing workers coming to our humble house, using big brushes to paint the fumy glue first as base before smoothing a big piece of paper with ugly floral designs on the walls. One by one, they would go up and eat away the room.
So when I first heard of the concept of "sticking things on the walls as decor", I was skeptical. Is this the precursor of wall paper making its return? I certainly hoped not. Only thing is these sticking patterns are removable and custom-able (if there's such a word) so they are just about 1,000,000 times better than the conventional wall paper. Just look at how easy it is to add a great accent to a plain wall by leveraging some of the designs from Decorette Store. Go ahead, if you've been staring at the same wall for years or looking to add a little something in the living space to brighten your day, an easy solution is just a click away.
It was this Eames Chair graphic that caught my eye. I clicked into it to find that it's actually the pattern of a tote bag. Cute idea! So I started looking through this designer's Etsy site and found a ton of yummy stuff that I liked and wanted to share. So here is Retrology's quirky designs. Make sure you check out the various food items that are made of fabric. Not only do they look real, they seem good enough to eat. Wouldn't you agree? Her work is indeed a combination of a pair of skillful hands and wild imagination. Who needs anything else when you are armed with these two qualities? Oh and by the way, she brings us these beautiful things from down under, Sydney, to be precise.
Isn't this pendant necklace a gorgeous piece or what? I know I know. For someone who self proclaimed to be a non jewelry wearer but posts two entries back to back on jewelry design is a bit hyprocritical. But I couldn't help it when I came across Kyoto Hashimoto's talented work. I really like the chunky links that seem to be the common theme in her designs. They make all her necklace pieces playful and innocent at the same time. She's from Australia, the mother land of my beloved husband. Visit her site and maybe you'll find a thing or two you like.
Can I tell you this blog is my guilty pleasure outside my day job? I simply can not wait every day after the baby goes to bed and the hubby relaxes on the couch to browse through the Internet to search for that one designer whose talent catches my eye. Now, I feel like my day is complete. Looking forward to tomorrow's post and good find. :)
I am not a person that wears alot of accessary. Used to and still do think that the only pieces of bling I need to be wearing day in and out would be (in the order of significance)
1) my engagement ring and wedding band
2) the watch that I rewarded myself with when I finally got a big bump in salary with my day time job that pays (not this) ;P
3) earrings or a simple necklace
Not a big fan of draping a ton of jewelry to weigh myself down. However, when I was browsing through some of the accessory designers from down under (the great country which I've learned to love so dearly, more story on that), I discovered the great work by Madeleine Beatty. Are those darling earrings good enough to eat? They almost look like candy, oozing with sweetness with their adorable colors combined with those darling lines/dots/shapes. Check out her Etsy store too. You'll dig up some real treasure, I bet!
I have decided to dedicate this very first entry to speak a bit about the theme of "Chloser than Ever", my blog about functional yet aesthetic design. In my spare time, which is at a premium nowadays being the new mom of a 7 month old darling baby girl, I like to peruse through blogs about anything and everything design related. **Mental Note: I shall try to link a few of my favorites once I get this blog a bit more in order.** The unfortunate part has always been the lack of mentioning of designers in the foreign regions, especially those of the Pacific-Asian countries. That sort of inspired to start this blog which will serve as an entry way of introducing the functional and eye pleasing designs of that particular region to the readers here in the US. To really show that good design is indeed within reach and closer than ever (thus the name of the blog "Chloser than Ever" - Chloser is a play off my daughter's name, Chloe).
SO, having said all that, I have discovered one clever graphic/industrial designer by the name of Mac Funamizu, hail from Tokyo Japan. Check out the website if you will. The sleek and uber chic designs seemingly inspired by iPod's simple lines have an extreme calming effect for the busy bees of our generation. Browsing through the website feels like having a cyber SPA treatment where I can sit back, relax, and just look at these beautiful yet super functional product images for as long as I please. Mac admittedly mentioned that while these designs might not have been tested by tech savvy folks and that they are simply as what they appear to be, just design ideas, they sure look good enough to be manufactured and introduced to the masses. Have a look, this is not so shabby for my very first attempt at posting, right? More to update in the coming days.
